If you've been reading my blog for a while now, you know that I love using reclaimed wood

 in my projects.

When I was contacted to come up with some creative ways to use large and small crates in a way that helps with back to school organization, I was all over it.

By the way, if you click on that link you will see they are now selling deconstructed reclaimed and new pallet pieces! No more killing yourself trying to pry the pieces off!

I knew right away what I wanted to do with the larger crates.

The first thing I did was to stain them a rich ebony.

Then I stacked them on our small front porch to create a catchall for sports equipment,

 bags, and books.

I don't know about you, but I always feel like there is such a small amount of time after school before it's dinner time and then the kids are heading off to sports practice's.

Having everything in one place and organized is key.

I also like that these are totally portable. I didn't attach them together, they are just stacked one on top of the other. 

I painted the smaller crates Rosemary by Sherwin williams and added some little buckets from Ikea in them. This makes a handy place for markers, pens, and pencils.

How many times do your kids sit down to do homework only to spend too much time trying to find a sharp pencil?

Last week, I revealed my daughter Phoebe's new bedroom which I redecorated as part of the ONE ROOM CHALLENGE. It was not easy to makeover Phoebe's already wonderful room...but girls and their decorating tastes change dramatically in the teen years and she wanted something more calm and peaceful for her 17th Birthday room makeover ...sniff sniff...

Lets take one last look at Phoebe's old room…done for her 13th Birthday...

AND HERE IS "GOLD WHITE AND BLUSH" 17TH BIRTHDAY MAKEOVER!

Our "ANCHOR" IS the "DAYDREAM" (in blush) wallpaper from Hygee and West .

We kept the rest of the room sweet and simple, starting with LOTS of cleaning out of clutter and random collections of junk by my petite packrat...and moving on to fresh coat paint of Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace walls and trim. We added crisp white bedding (Target) , Off white rugs and soft pastels for the furniture and accents. Only two new pieces of furniture were brought in..an antique bed.... ending a 5 year long hunt for the "perfect spindle bed" and a new white chair from Overstock. I did a portrait of Phoebe's kitty Gus as her birthday gift...Everything else..LAMPS, DESK, ART, SIDE TABLES… was recycled, repainted and repurposed...

Paper Moon Shop came up with a new line of personalized favor bags for fun summer parties!  This spring a bride came to us and asked for personalized favor bags with the bride and groom's names to decorate their reception table. They tied a special treat inside for each of their guests to take home.   We thought thought this was going to be a one time thing.  Weeks later another customer was throwing a big 60th birthday bash in Oregon's wine country.  Guests were coming from all over the U.S. to celebrate.  So, the hostess wanted to give those attending a special memento when they returned to their hotel rooms after a day of wine tasting and birthday dinner.  Paper Moon Shop created a personalized "thank you" bags.  The hostess had a great time filling the bag with wine openers, healthy snacks and plenty of aspirin!  The hotel graciously put the favor bags on each guests pillows that evening.  Paper Moon Shop just had to add this new product idea to our selection of note cards and labels www.papermoonshop.com.

The favor bags allow you to fill and tie with your own personal touch. The bags can be used for a number of occasions like weddings, birthdays, engagement parties, showers, teacher appreciation, hostess gifts, anniversary parties… the skies the limit for customers to make their parties extra special. 

We think another fun idea this summer would be to fill the "VINTAGE JAR" designed bag with homemade summer berry jam!  A perfect gift for neighbors and friends.  

For the Fourth of July we also think adding child safe fire works into a "CHEERS" favor bag and tying with a red white and blue ribbon would be a fantastic touch.  With graduation around the corner filling one of the "CHEERS" favor bags with a gift card and a memento to their future college would be a fun way to celebrate the graduate.
