~love your home challenge~

~Hello~

Do you all know Melissa from The Inspired Room? Well, I  was invited to complete a simple Love Your Home Challenge inspired by her new book Love The Home You Have written by her!

This book is fabulous.
It really hit home for me, everything she shared about her experiences being a homeowner and trying to keep up with the Jones'

If you would like a copy for yourself you can buy one on Amazon here.

This book will teach you how to transform your rooms (and your life) from plainly livable to fabulously lovable.

So, the challenge was, for me {and other fabulous bloggers}
to transform one space from ordinary to extraordinary, in a very simple way.

I chose to do an exterior space.
After a long winter, everything outside starts to look plain and drab. Not much color, plants have no leaves, and while the sun is starting to show it's face, there is still not a lot of excitement going on.

Our steps leading to our deck were feeling very plain and overlooked.
After sweeping off the stairs and doing a little weeding, I planted a couple vintage olive baskets with fresh flowers.
Just raking the dirt made everything come to life!

I also made a sign out of a old piece of wood I had, using simple letters I painted.
{come back Thursday to see the tutorial and to get details}

A couple hours on a sunny afternoon made all the difference.
This space makes me smile now when I pull up into our driveway.

Have a great day!

~giant paper rose tutorial~

Spring is almost here, and that means it's time for flowers.
Even if the flowers aren't blooming in your neck of the woods, you can make your own with this tutorial. We actually made these with my son's 6th grade class for a art project, so if 6th graders can make them, you can too!

We followed these instructions, but we used handmade paper. It had a easier texture to work with.
I love how they turned out and I hope you do too!

~spring vignette & free printable~

I am teaming up with some other fabulously creative bloggers to bring you a ton of free printables for spring! Not only are you getting all the printables, but you get to see how each person used them in a creative vignette!

When I think of spring I think of fresh fruits and veggies, citrus trees,  and warmer weather for gardening.
So my printable has to do with one of my favorite things, food. :)

Growing up my mom would always make this delicious sugary drink, and now my kids are asking for it. So, I created the recipe for you all on a great vintage orange image.
I mounted mine to orange scrapbook paper and framed it in a white frame.
I really love the pop of orange from this piece.

If you would like to print this image for yourself, simply copy and paste the image below to a word document and print out whatever size you need!

Now, check out the rest of these fun and FREE spring printable images!

~repurposing and recreating~

Jennifer Rizzo sent me an email a little while ago.
She had a great idea for a,
 "she sent me what?" project.

 Basically, you receive a thrift store item in the mail
{good or bad}
from another blogger, and you have to turn it into something else.

I, in turn buy something at a thrift store and send it on to the next blogger on the list.
Well, today is the day we are showcasing all our creations!

Here is the full link of participants:

Donna sent me this pail.
I'll be honest.
I thought it was pretty cute and wondered what the heck I could make with it.
I kinda just wanted to throw a candle in it and set it on my porch and call it good.

But, I knew it had to be more creative than that.
I thought about turning it into a fountain so that the water would come out all the little holes.
I also thought about turning it into a planter and filling it with flowers.
Lastly I thought about planting an herb garden in it for my kitchen.

 After staring at it for about a week, I finally figured out what I was going to do with it.
I was going to turn it into a bird feeder/house and the only thing I ended up having to buy was this 99 cent fluted pie pan from the thrift store!

I  rummaged through my stash of old hardware and found a tiny door handle.

It happened to fit perfectly in one of the holes for a perch.

Then I drilled a small hole so birds can go in if they choose.

Next, I used liquid nails to attach the pail to the pie pan, let it dry, and filled the pan with wild bird seed!
