~an antique door in Savannah's room~

When we added on Savannah's bedroom to our house 10 years ago, one of the things I wanted to use was an antique door as her closet.
Over the years I have painted it many colors including pale pink, cream, and most recently, white.

But when I gave her room a little makeover this last time, I decided I wanted it to be bare wood.
I didn't use any messy paint strippers, I just sanded, sanded, and sanded some more.

I almost forgot to take a before picture.

I was going to use a liming wax over the top of it but decided to leave it as is and I think I love it this way. Which way do you prefer it?
Painted or raw wood?

~a teen room makeover for Savannah~

In 2010 we gave our daughter a makeover on her room while she was away at camp.
You can see that post here.
But over the last 4 years, her tastes have changed and it was time for a update.

My driving force for the makeover, was that Cottages and Bungalows Magazine was coming out for a photo shoot. So over the course of 2 weeks I transformed her room into something that we both love.
{warning~lots of photos coming,
sources will be listed at the bottom of this post}

Here is the entrance to her room.
The main change here is the paint color on the walls.

I stripped all the paint off her antique closet door and left it as is.

I also painted her bed black and added the top pieces using 1x2's
I am also in love with her new bedding and pillows!

I added new sconces and a new chandelier as well.
The DIY for the zebra rug can be found here.

~a new sign~

I think maybe I have 6 or 7 of Tara's signs now.

I think that qualifies as a collection
{or possibly a disease}

At any rate, I had her make me another………
and of course, I love it.

~a new sign~{& a discount!}

My blog friend Tara and her husband Andy make the coolest signs.
You can visit their etsy shop here.
What you might not know, is that they can create custom pieces for you!

And that is exactly what I had them do for over our bed.
If you remember, over the holidays I had this sign hanging there.

I liked the shape and size so much, but the "Oh holy night" wasn't going to do year round.
So, I thought long and hard and came up with the lyrics to the song by George Straight,
 "I cross my heart"
The lyrics are perfect for Chris and I and I couldn't be happier with it!

How about 10% your order at Between You And Me?

When they asked me to be a part of their 12 days of Christmas signs, I couldn't say no. Do you remember this sign?

I knew when I saw it I had to have it. Here it is on our front porch last Christmas. I cannot wait to get it out again this year!

Their signs are top notch, I should know, I own several. And I am a sign maker myself, so that says it all right there!

My friend Edie posted about hers yesterday here. Be sure to check it out.
