~doing a little living room rearranging~

Every now and then, ok, about once a week, I get in the mood to change things up.

Sometimes it's little things like bringing in fresh flowers and cleaning out the cupboards.

Other times it's rearranging furniture or tackling a major project.

This week I switched things up in the living room a little bit.

As many of you know, I sanded the green paint off our coffee table.

I know a lot of you liked the green, and I did too, just not in here.

And if I ever do want it green again, I'll just paint it!

I'm loving the look of the raw wood.

The photo below shows the main changes, even though they are small. I removed the glass front cabinet from the left of the fireplace and stacked it on top of the other matching one, on the right.

Then I moved the leather chair to the corner to create a cozy little spot.

Sorry for all the sun glares. 

It rained all day and when I went to take photos, the sun came out.

Not complaining though!

I didn't have any fresh flowers so I cut a couple branches off some trees in the yard.

I also brought back my stump table and put all my favorite back issues of Cottage Living Magazine on it. I could read them over and over and over.

Of course when I sacked these two cabinets, the artwork was too big, so I changed that up too.

~a teen room makeover for Savannah~

In 2010 we gave our daughter a makeover on her room while she was away at camp.

You can see that post here.

But over the last 4 years, her tastes have changed and it was time for a update.

My driving force for the makeover, was that Cottages and Bungalows Magazine was coming out for a photo shoot. So over the course of 2 weeks I transformed her room into something that we both love.

Here is the entrance to her room.

The main change here is the paint color on the walls.

I stripped all the paint off her antique closet door and left it as is.

I also painted her bed black and added the top pieces using 1x2's

I am also in love with her new bedding and pillows!

I added new sconces and a new chandelier as well.

~hallway makeover~

Remember back when we got our little baking niche in the kitchen wallpapered?

Well, that same day I also had Janet install the same wallpaper in our hallway niche.

Way back when, this area started as a coat closet.

It was always jam packed with off season coats and clothes and it drove me crazy.

I thought taking off the doors would not only make the space more inviting, but also visually open up the narrow hallway.

I added the white bead board years ago.

Then I added the bench with cubbies for hats, mittens, etc. in the winter, sunscreen, goggles, and towels in the summer.

After it was all wallpapered I went on the hunt for the perfect mirror and bench cushion.

I found the mirror at TJ Maxx.

I knew I wanted something round and I liked the shape of this one, and the color was perfect.

I went with Tonic Living for the bench cushion fabric and the cushion cover itself.

I had heard of other bloggers raving about their customer service and product.

They exceeded my expectations.

When the cushion cover arrived it was not only beautiful but it fit my existing cushions like a glove.

Not only that, but they were more than happy to answer my 5,000 emails before ordering.

Ok, maybe not 5,000, but there was a lot!

This is the fabric I ended up using.

~adding easy color to neutral rooms~

I'm sure you all know by now that I love me some neutrals.
What you might not know is that I also love color, and every now and then I crave it.
Not wanting to do anything drastic or permanent, heres a easy way to add color to your neutral decor for next to nothing.

Colorful books. Here I mixed new decor books with colorful bindings with vintage books with a more toned down palette.

Look no further than nature for a little bit of color. My grandpa used to grow dahlias and every time I see them, I think of him and smile.

Here is my whole coffee table set up. Loving my new velvet pumpkins from here!

And lastly, pillows. I am a pillow hoarder. It's such an easy solution for updating a room on a dime. All of these pillows {grain sacks} are from my friend Maria at Dreamy Whites.

On the other side of the sectional there is a red striped grain sack. Love them all, and this little bit of color makes me so happy!
