~lately loving~{summer addition}

I love running across cool new products and I love being able to pass them along to you.
Some of these you may have heard of, some might be new to you.
Whatever the case may be, I think they are must haves for the coming summer months!

I recently found these throw beds from Hedgehouse USA.
Check out the range of colors.
I ordered the charcoal stripe one.
Great for sleepovers, camping, outdoor movie night, etc.
I love how they roll up for easy storage too.

I also just ordered these pillows.
You can never have enough pillows!
{am I seeing a grey trend?}

I also stocked up on unbreakable wine glasses for outdoor entertaining.

I also finally found some DHA FREE sunless tanner that I am loving.
You can order it here.

And if you are still in need of a fathers day gift, any one of these fun things from TJ Maxx are sure to fit the bill.

And of course, I have to include something from one of my favorites, World Market.

This has my name written all over it, wouldn't you say.
Well, my daughters name at least!

Hope you are all enjoying your week!

~how to sew a simple pillow~

If you can sew a straight line, than you can make this pillow case.

First, cut your piece of fabric 1" bigger than your insert.
My insert is 26" x 26", so I cut it 27" x 27"
Iron it flat. Also, it's a good idea to pre wash your fabric in case the material shrinks.

Next you want to cut 2 pieces for the back flaps.
My first piece measures 27" x 20" and my second piece measures 27" x 14"

Fold over one edge and iron flat for the hem.
Fold over again and iron that.

Repeat with the other smaller piece.

Once everything is ironed, take the two smaller pieces to the sewing machine and sew the hem.

Place your largest piece right side up on the ground or table.
Lay one back flap on top,right side down, hemmed edge towards the center.
Lay the other piece right side down, hem towards the center and then pin all the way around.
On these larger pillows I also like to put a pin in the center so nothing shifts while sewing.

Sew all four edges, rounding the corners slightly.

Once you have sewn all 4 sides, cut each corner and then turn the whole thing right side out.

I like using feather/down inserts.
For reference, I got my material here.
{you can buy the inserts there too}
Happy Friday!

{100% my opinion, I was not paid to say this}

Here are some pillows in our home that I have purchased through Spark Modern.
This betwixt lumbar pillow can be found here.
It looks great in the fall and winter months because it is dark and bold.
But as you can see in the picture below, it also works in the summer with bright flowers and lighter pillows mixed in.

I'm literally obsessed with these new Euro pillows I just got for Savannah's room.
I want to steal them off her bed.
These are 26"x26" and they have a hidden zipper.
Did I mention I love them?

You can find them here.

These betwixt pillows have found many different homes in my house.
They go everywhere, with everything.

Yesterday I showed you where they currently are, in our hallway nook.
You can find all the betwixt here.
I don't currently see this color way.

Bad quality photos below, but these large pillows are another favorite.
Currently they are on our master bed.
I love how versatile all these pillows are!
This Volpi Navy is currently out of stock, but check back in soon.

This little blue pillow below can be found here.
It's a great soft pillow to throw in the mix.

Want to see more of my favorites from their shop?
I am loving these and hope to add them to my "collection" soon.

And, I'd love to get this pillow to match our wallpaper!

~a thousand hearts~{pillow DIY}

Ok, so maybe not a thousand, more like 38. This pillow diy is super fun and cute for
Valentine's day! While it is a bit time consuming, I think it's worth it in the end!

Here is what you will need:

-Linen material in 2 colors. I used tan and white. Mine started out in the form of a tablecloth and napkins, so get creative!

-fusible webbing

-tape measure

-pins

-heart template

-pen

-scissors

-good hot iron

-sewing machine

-black and white thread

-feather/down pillow insert

First you are going to print out some heart templates. I found mine by doing a google search of "free heart printable" I made 3 different sized hearts.
Print them out, preferably onto card stock and cut them out. Then you want to iron your fusible webbing onto the fabric you are using for your hearts.
Next, trace the hearts onto your fusible webbing. Cut out all your hearts. I believe I got around 8-9 hearts on one sheet, and I used 4 sheets.

When all your hearts are cut out, you will again want to follow the instructions with your fusible webbing, and iron them onto your pillow fabric front, that you have cut to size.
My pillow is 24x24.

This next step you can skip, but I thought it was kinda cute. I used fabric paint {grey} and alphabet stamps, to spell out xoxo on one of the hearts.

It looks good in my opinion to overlap some of the hearts. One they are all ironed on, you will want to "outline" each heart with black thread. You can do this by hand, or on your machine.

I made my pillow envelope style. You can find instructions for this all over the web
Once I was done, I through the whole thing in the washer and the dryer which gave the edges of the hearts a slightly frayed look.

~And here it is all done and close up~

And for the fun part….

I will be giving away a DURATHON iron to one lucky winner!

This project was the first I used this iron on and I loved it. It heated up quickly, has auto shut off, and a retractable cord.

To be entered to win a Hamilton Beach Durathon iron just pin any of these images to Pinterest with the hashtag #DURATHON.

I will pick a winner on Friday and announce it back here!

Good luck! xoxo

~thrifty thursday~{re-purposing clothing}

I have a very simple project to show you today.
It's one of those things that is a little
outside the box, my favorite kind.
The story starts with this sweater and wool jacket.

The sweater was a hand me down and the jacket I purchased at a thrift store for $6.99.
Do you want to see what I made with them?

Pillows!
These are great for fall/winter because of the textures and colors.
So don't throw away your outdated clothing just yet.
Those sweaters and flannels can be turned into great decorative items
for your home.

On the wool plaid one, I added a bunch of patches that I had been saving for Cody.
I've collected these since he was little and thought this would be a great spot to use them.

I don't have any instructions on how to make these. It's just 4 straight sides on the machine.
The sweater one I sewed shut {no opening}
The plaid one I simply cut the fabric so that the buttons that
run up the front of the shirt make up the opening on the back,
or the front, depending on which side you want to show.

Here's a tip if you are out thrifting for these items.
Look for clothing in size XL or bigger, you get way more material that way.
The plaid shirt I used was a XXXL.

Add your insert and you are done!

xoxo
