~thrifty thursday~{sewing w/ammunition bags}

A friend recently gave me this bunch of vintage cloth ammunition bags.

When I got home I realized how perfectly one of them matched my pillows on my couch, so I decided to make a pillow to go with them.
{sorry, bad phone pic}

Here is how to make a simple envelope style pillow cover.

I started with a 18" pillow insert.
I prefer a down/feather blend, but you can use whatever you have.

Measure and cut the front of your pillow allowing for a 1/2" seam allowance.
Since my pillow insert was 18", I cut my fabric at 18 1/2" square.
{I used a drop cloth from Home Depot}

Then I cut off the front of the ammo bag and attached it to the center of my pillow front using a iron and heat n bond. All of these iron on adhesives come with full instructions.

Next you will want to cut the back pieces.
If you use a drop cloth like I am, you can make it so you don't have to do any extra sewing by using the edges that are already finished.

Cut 2 pieces that will overlap. Mine were approx. 18 1/2" by 12" and 18 1/2" by 10 1/2"

I didn't get a picture of the next steps, but I sewed the ammo bag around the edges, in about 1/4"

Then position your back pieces onto the front piece, right side to right side and pin all the way around.

Sew all four sides going back and forth over where it will open to ensure it is strong enough.

Turn right side out and wash and dry. Your edges will then fray a bit on the ammo bag.

Add your insert and you are done!

It found it's home on our leather chair in the living room which sits next to our couch. I love how the pillows all compliment each other!

~DIY applique dog pillow~

I have a small collection of vintage fabrics that I cherish.
A lot of the scraps are leftover from clothes my mom made me when I was little.

So, I decided to use a small scrap I had to make a pillow with a lab silhouette.

You can follow these instructions here.
{just swap the dog silhouette for the heart cutouts, and pls. note the iron giveaway is now closed}

What do you think?
From a scrap of a piece of fabric that my mom once made me a dress out of, to a cherished lab pillow sitting on my couch as an adult.

Pretty special to me.

~a new favorite fabric~{made into pillows}

I have been a longtime fan of Urban Grace Interiors for some time now.

Erika and I both share a love for the color green and her kitchen in her old house was to die for if you ask me. Very homey, colorful, and cozy.

Besides all the green, I fell in love with the fabric on her window treatments.
It's by Victoria Hagan and it's called Four Seasons, in the autumn color way.

I quickly went online and searched for this fabric.
It was then that I found 6 Wilson's shop on Etsy.

She has fabulous pillows and other antiques.
My friends all laugh at me because they think I have a pillow addiction, but oh my goodness, you would too if you saw these right?

Carol shipped these out to me so fast.
They have a hidden zipper so I can wash them, very important in my house.
Every time I walk into this room I smile.
The color makes me so happy!

~new pillows in my etsy shop~

I have been neglecting my etsy shop long enough.

So today I am excited to announce a new line of pillows with some of my favorite saying on them!

I teamed up with a screen print artist to bring you pillows that are not only machine washable, but durable, and will stand the test of time.

Each one is 20"x20" and has a zipper closure.
They look great grouped together, but are neutral enough to be  thrown in with others.

Please stop by my etsy shop here to check them out, I have a limited number to start with.

To start with, I have a grey pillow with white lettering that reads,
"I love you more, xoxo"

My kids and I always say this to each other :)

Next up is a crisp white pillow slip with bold black type.
It reads, "if there was ever a day when we can't be together,
 keep me in your heart, I'll love you forever."

And finally, a little reminder,
love you, love you, love you…………

~And some of them all together~

 The ticking pillow is from

Happy Friday friends!
