~industrial pipe closet system~

Our master closet was recently in need of some serious overhauling.
I wanted something super custom and a little out of the ordinary.
I've had fun lately with pipe, building little things here and there, so we decided to try our hands at a pipe closet system.
Let me tell you, it's way harder than it looks. It requires at least 543 trips to the home improvement store to get new pipe and return pieces you thought you needed.
You may be a bit more organized than I am though.

Since we were completely starting from scratch,
{literally ripped out the drywall in the old closet}
we decided to line the whole thing with cedar, ceiling and all.
There is many benefits to cedar in a closet, not just aesthetics.
Cedar removes any moisture from the air, and it deters bugs that like to eat clothes.
We just happen to like the look of it too, so it was a win win.

We used black plumbing pipe. I did seal it so it won't rust.
For shelving we used old scaffolding planks.
I love the rustic quality of them and the lettering on them is kinda cool.

For socks and other small misc. items, I have a set of old locker baskets that I purchased from a garage sale for $5 each.

Once the whole thing was done, I went to Ikea and bought all matching wood hangers.
I love how the whole thing turned out. It is super functional for us, and even though the process was a headache, I am glad we did it.
This will definitely stand up over time.

Are you ready to see?
It was a tricky place to get photos of, but I did my best.

These shelves are all for shoes. They take up almost the entire wall on the side with the entry door.
There is 7 shelves and we left the bottom one with extra space for tall boots.

This is the side opposite the shoe racks.
A his and her side on either side of the locker baskets.

Here you can see shoe racks on the left and lockers on the right.

And some misc. photos…

Have you used pipe in any unconventional ways?
I'd love to hear about it!

~farmhouse swag~{with painted fox treasures}

If you haven't already hear of Painted Fox Treasures, let me introduce you.
I personally think they have the best selection of farmhouse swag around, and at a very very reasonable price point.

I got my 3 tiered tray there.....

I also just purchased this and it is AMAZING!

I also have a serious crush on these baskets....

I'm pretty sure this recycled canvas map would look great in just about any home.

These chalkboard napkin ring sets are just too cute!

I LOVE this metal cafe sign.

There is literally a hundred more items I could show, but you should go look at their site for yourself.
If you are like me and don't want to fight the crowds on black Friday and get up before the roosters, do your shopping online from home in your jammies!
{and no, I was not paid to say this, it's my honest opinion.
 Just love this website and thought I'd share it with all of you!}

~oh deer, it's a holiday thrift shop challenge~

Alice from Thoughts From Alice asked if I'd like to participate in a challenge making over a holiday item from the thrift store. Since thrift store is my middle name,
I didn't hesitate to say yes.

I found these 4 matching deer ornaments at my local thrift shop for $3.99.

I thought they were pretty cute as is, but decided to dress them up a bit.
I bought 4 of these unfinished wooden shield plaques from Joanne Fabrics, along with some vintage looking floral scrapbooking papers.

The first step was to cut the paper to fit the tops of the plaques. I did this by flipping the plaques over and tracing around them with pencil onto the paper and cutting out.
Modge podge them onto the plaques.

Any excess paper can be sanded off.
This step also helps create a worn vintage look.

Drill holes through the tops of each one so you can hang them as ornaments on your tree.

They should look like this at this point.

The next step is to age them. I used Annie Sloan dark wax and a rag, but you can also use stain.
Go over the outside edges and smudge it onto the paper a bit as well.
Let dry.

Before and after the dark wax.

Use ribbon, or twine to tie a bow.
I used liquid nails to attach the deer to the center of each plaque and let them dry overnight.

I love how they turned out.
I wish there was more than four!

I hung them on my tree in our dining room.

This tree is new to me this year too.
It's a narrow frosted frazier fir from Balsam Hill.
I've always wanted a frosted tree and this one looks so real!

~thrifty Thursday~{log slice pedestal}

This thrifty Thursday project a 2 year old can make~really.

All you need is a log slice

{if you don't have access to one, you can buy them at craft stores}

and a thick branch, or tiny tree stump.

You can rest the slice on top, or use liquid nails or another strong glue, and let set up overnight.
Pretty simple and basic right?

Would you like to see how I used mine in a rustic outdoor table scape?
I created a little chocolate party for the kids.
Chocolate muffins, chocolate chips, milk, and all the smores fixings.

I know I am jumping way ahead with Christmas decor before Thanksgiving, but I just couldn't resist.

I've been collecting these vintage Santa mugs for years.
Pottery Barn sells new ones if you can't find old ones.

Each person got a plate with a bowl filled with
chocolate, graham crackers, and marshmallows.

The eat drink be merry napkins I got on etsy years ago and they are no longer being sold.

Plenty of milk to wash down all that chocolate!

If you are dining outdoors this time of year, a nice touch is to
add blankets to each chair to keep your guests warm and cozy.

Yes, my tree is up inside :)

On either side of the centerpiece I placed two birch logs that are actually little mini fire pits from Home Depot.
It not only adds warmth, but is quite handy while making smores!

Lights on the house are slowly but surely going up too!

Phew, that was a lot of photos!
Here is some links if you'd like to create a similar outdoor tables cape.
